Indoor Air Pollution

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that the air inside the typical home is two to five times more polluted than the air immediately outside. This can be due to mold, off-gases from rugs, pressed wood floors and furniture, as well as chemicals in paint, personal care and cleaning products. In failing septic systems, sewage smells coming from the septic tank and drain field are common. Using eco-friendly personal and cleaning products help reduce the environmental and health concerns. To remove clogs and the sewage that causes odors, every drain should be treated, cleaned with the proper sewage-digesting bacterial treatments. In extreme cases, air indoors can be as high as one hundred times more contaminated than outdoor air. Cleaning products are responsible for nearly 10 percent of all toxic exposures reported to U.S. Poison Control Centers. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 3.8 million people die every year from exposure to household air pollution, primarily from the misuse of cooking fuel: wood, coal and charcoal all cause pollution and potential breathing problems.

When you think of contaminants or pollution, you may think of an industrial waste site or air pollution from city smog. You do not think of indoor pollution even though most of us spend about 90 percent of our lives indoors. The typical American home contains gallons of toxic materials, everything from glass and bathroom cleaners to paint and pesticides. Respiratory problems, eye irritation, cancer and disruption of our endocrine system are some of the health concerns of exposure to environmental toxins. Switching to less toxic cleaning products will result in less burns, rashes, itchy throat, eyes and lung issues. If you are using Drainteks products to treat your drainage or grease trap system, using eco-friendly cleaning products will help the Drainteks sewage-digesting bacteria work better. Drainteks bacteria digest the waste that forms in your pipes, your septic tank, your drain field lines and soil. Cleaning your drainage system by applying Drainteks through your toilets and drains will remove the sewage odors and will help you avoid the plumbing, health and environmental problems that are associated with waste buildup.
