Grease Traps
As a food service business owner you are responsible for the care of your drainage system so your FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) does not enter the septic or sewer system. Grease removal, plumbing blockages, and grease trap pumping costs are becoming increasingly more expensive. Grease is also present in human waste from the FOG in our diet; its rapid buildup is the primary cause of foul odors, the deterioration of grease traps, clogs, and other drainage system problems.
Grease and lard buildup from commercial restaurants need to be regularly treated and removed or else they will enter the treatment facilities and septic system causing the release of raw sewage into the environment. Due to the heavy financial burden of grease in the sewer lines, municipalities are referring restaurants and other commercial facilities to Drainteks to eliminate grease before it reaches the sewer system. It is necessary to treat your grease traps and drains regularly to save money, protect your business and property.
The grease trap is a container usually connected to the dishwasher drain pipe underneath the commercial kitchen sink with a capacity of 20 to 150 gallons. It could also be above or below ground. Grease traps usually remove 80 to 90% of the incoming FOG. A grease interceptor from commercial kitchens or groceries can be concrete, fiberglass or steel. Grease interceptors can remove up to 95% or more of the grease from the kitchen; they usually have two compartments and a holding capacity of an average of 250 to 500, up to 1,500 gallons. Grease traps “trap” grease by a series of inlet and outlet baffles that prevent grease from flowing from one end to the other. Maintain your grease trap and drains with Drainteks to prevent foul odors and clogs. It is helpful to pump out your grease trap first if it is full. Apply Drainteks directly to the drain closest to grease trap at times when your drains will be used less – for several hours. Using more product than suggested is safe and will help digest grease buildup faster. The Drainteks treatments come with application instructions and free technical support.
